Recital and Evensong for the Feast of Hildegard von Bingen

The 2018-2019 music series at St David's opens with a festival Recital and Evensong for the feast of Hildegard von Bingen, featuring OUTCALLS as the opening recitalists.

Celebrating the first documented composer in the Western canon, this afternoon of music brings to life the majesty and the mystery of Hildegard's potent music. The Choir of St. David's is joined by Britt Olsen-Ecker and Melissa Wimbish of the Indy-Opera-Rock band OUTCALLS, performing music of their own composition as well as chants of Hildegard von Bingen durign the recital, which begins at 4:30.

Beginning at 5:00 the Choir of St David's leads the Service of Evensong, an all-musical service that allows for a mystical evening experience. The music includes the world premiere of 2017-2018 Composer-in-Residence Faye Chiao's Preces and Responses, as well as the U.S. premiere of two movements from Kerry Andrew's "dusk songs," closing with an organ postlude by Bjork.

The event is free an open to the public. A suggested donation benefits the artists and the music series.
